Key Requirements

In-depth knowledge of regional customs regulations and specific port/terminal operating procedures, particularly within Tanzania. The core responsibilities for this position include preparing and processing import/export documentation in strict compliance with Tanzania Customs regulations. The specialist will be responsible for obtaining necessary import permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals from various authorities, and for coordinating international shipments while meticulously monitoring customs clearance activities. A significant part of the role involves liaising effectively with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), banks, customs brokers, shipping lines, and logistics providers to guarantee timely cargo clearance. This includes ensuring accurate payment of customs duties, taxes, and all related charges, as well as resolving any customs queries, inspections, valuation issues, and post-clearance audits. The Customs Clearance Specialist will also be tasked with tracking cargo movement from ports, ICDs, or bonded warehouses to its final destination, reviewing and approving invoices from logistics service providers (LSP), and maintaining accurate customs records.

Key Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field. Minimum of 4 years’ hands-on experience in Tanzania customs clearance is mandatory. Proven working knowledge of TRA Customs procedures, TANCIS, HS Code classification, customs valuation, and EACCMA regulations. Strong working relationship with TRA, shipping lines, terminal operators, customs brokers, and other regulatory authorities. Professional certification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Procurement, or Customs is an added advantage.
