ADVOCACY OFFICER @ SPEAK UP AFRICA
Speak Up Africa is looking for a passionate and strategic Advocacy Officer to join our Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Hub in Nairobi, Kenya. Africa is at a turning point with a rapidly growing youth population, yet a significant percentage of children lack basic literacy and numeracy skills. As our in-country champion, you will be responsible for driving systemic change by building and coordinating civil society coalitions and turning evidence into policy-ready products. You will play a crucial role in engaging media, champions, and government stakeholders to drive the implementation of Presidential Task Force recommendations on foundational learning. This position offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of education reform in Kenya, ensuring that children acquire the fundamental skills necessary for their future success. By joining our team, you will contribute to a movement that believes when children learn to read and do math, everything becomes possible. We are seeking a candidate who understands the complexities of the education ecosystem and can strategically navigate the policy landscape to influence budget allocations and educational outcomes.
Key Requirements
Proven professional experience in advocacy or public policy within the education sector.
Demonstrated ability to build and coordinate diverse civil society coalitions.
Expertise in translating research and evidence into policy-ready advocacy products.
Experience engaging with media, government stakeholders, and high-level champions.
Deep understanding of the Kenyan education ecosystem and policy environment.
Knowledge of the Presidential Task Force recommendations on foundational learning.
Strong skills in developing advocacy briefs, decks, and op-eds.
Experience in budget-influence and coalition management at a national level.
Strategic thinking and the ability to act as an in-country champion for education.
Excellent communication and networking skills to drive implementation of educational policies.
