The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) is seeking a seasoned Senior Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Specialist to lead regional impact across ten countries and shape the future of the Nile River basin. Based in Entebbe, Uganda, this prestigious role involves driving data-driven decision-making and sustainable development for the entire Nile Basin. The specialist will lead high-level M&E and research initiatives that directly impact socio-economic development across Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, DRC, and Uganda. This is a senior regional position offering a unique platform to leave a lasting legacy through intergovernmental collaboration at the intersection of science and policy. This career opportunity provides stability with a six-year renewable term and a dynamic workspace in Entebbe. Candidates will have the chance to travel within and outside Basin countries to oversee critical projects and ensure Nile resources are protected for generations to come. The role is essential for ensuring that regional cooperation remains effective and that project outcomes are measured against international standards for water resource management and socio-economic progress.

Key Requirements

Minimum 10 years of experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) or research. Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Economics, or Environmental Science. Strong leadership skills and a proven passion for regional cooperation. Ability to lead high-level research initiatives and strategic data analysis. Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the 10 Nile Basin countries. Experience working with intergovernmental partnerships or international organizations. Proven track record in socio-economic development project management. Proficiency in using advanced M&E frameworks and data collection tools. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with international stakeholders. Ability to commit to a six-year renewable term in a senior regional position.
