The Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at MUHAS, in collaboration with the University of North Carolina (UNC, USA), is currently seeking two dedicated Research Assistants for the KUPAA study, which focuses on Family Psychoeducation for Adults with Psychotic Disorders in Tanzania. This full-time position is for an initial 6-month period, with the possibility of renewal, and is scheduled to commence in September 2026. The selected candidates will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Study Coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of research protocols.

As a Research Assistant, you will play a critical role in the recruitment and screening of study participants, ensuring all informed consent processes adhere to the highest ethical standards. You will also be responsible for conducting in-depth interviews, administering surveys, maintaining regulatory documentation, and assisting with data management tasks. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and be comfortable interacting with individuals living with mental health conditions. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate study records.

Key Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field Minimum 3 years of experience in health-related research Proven experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods Fluency in both English and Swahili with strong transcription and translation skills Proficiency in basic computer applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Strong understanding of research governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Ability to maintain organized source documents and regulatory binders Experience in managing Case Report Forms (CRFs) and adverse event logs Capacity to handle sensitive communication with individuals experiencing psychotic symptoms Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
