BDM ENGINEER - SOLAR ENERGY @ HSD-MELT
The BDM Engineer - Solar Energy (Division Lead) is a strategic leadership role at hsd-melt responsible for driving the solar division's growth and market positioning in Tanzania. The successful candidate will own the division’s business plan, reporting directly to the Director while overseeing a comprehensive pipeline of projects across corporate, government, and off-grid segments. This role involves a blend of technical authority, business development, and commercial management to ensure the successful delivery of solar solutions ranging from rooftop installations to utility-scale projects.
Beyond strategic planning, the role demands rigorous project lifecycle oversight, from initial design and energy yield assessments to final commissioning. The lead will manage subcontractors, enforce HSEQ standards, and ensure full compliance with regulatory bodies such as EWURA and TANESCO. Financially, the position carries P&L responsibility, requiring disciplined cost control, financial modeling, and contract negotiations to maintain healthy margins and EBITDA for the solar energy division.

Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Professional engineering registration (ERB Tanzania, IET, IEEE, or equivalent) or ability to obtain.
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in the energy sector.
At least 4 years in a management or leadership role.
Proven track record in business development and client acquisition across government and corporate segments.
Technical proficiency in approving engineering designs and energy yield assessments.
In-depth knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards and local energy regulations.
Experience in managing the full project lifecycle from design to commissioning.
Strong financial acumen with experience in P&L ownership, budgeting, and financial modeling.
Excellent stakeholder management skills to interface with EWURA, REA, and TANESCO.
