ASSISTANT BRANCH MANAGER – BUILDING MATERIALS / HARDWARE RETAIL @ UBSSA
The Assistant Branch Manager will be responsible for supporting the leadership and day-to-day operations of a prominent building supplies and hardware retail branch located in Johannesburg. This role requires a dynamic individual who can effectively manage staff, oversee inventory levels, and ensure high standards of customer service are met consistently. You will play a crucial role in driving sales growth and maintaining the profitability of the branch through strategic floor presence and operational discipline. Key duties include leading shift planning, coaching team members, and managing performance to foster a productive work environment. The successful candidate will also handle stock accuracy, including ordering, replenishment, and receiving, while building strong relationships with trade customers, contractors, and suppliers. This position offers a significant opportunity to step in as an acting Branch Manager when necessary, requiring strong problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain compliance with all company procedures.
Key Requirements
Proven Assistant Branch Manager / Senior Supervisor / Department Manager experience.
Building supplies / hardware retail experience is essential (e.g., Builders Warehouse, Cashbuild, Build It).
Strong leadership with experience supporting staff performance, training, and discipline.
Proven ability to help drive sales targets, margins, and customer service.
Strong working knowledge of stock control, ordering, receiving, shrinkage control, and merchandising.
Confident working with suppliers and supporting availability of key lines.
Strong admin, reporting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Capacity to lead shift planning and performance coaching for diverse teams.
Proven track record in maintaining branch standards and operational compliance.
Availability to start as soon as possible and work in the Johannesburg/Kempton Park region.
