AGRICULTURE OFFICER (VOLUNTEER) @ TANZANIA HOME ECONOMICS ORGANIZATION (TAHEA MWANZA)

Tanzania, Mwanza Posted 4/25/2026 gmail.com 9 Applied 2 Ultra Applied
Tanzania Home Economics Organization (TAHEA Mwanza) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Agriculture Officer for a volunteer role focused on strengthening community-based agricultural practices. This position is central to the implementation of agroecology and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) interventions at the grassroots level. The selected individual will work directly with women and youth smallholder farmers to facilitate training on sustainable land management, organic pest control, and crop diversification. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain significant field experience in rural extension and development programming.

Throughout the engagement, the volunteer will be responsible for establishing and monitoring demonstration plots that serve as learning hubs for local farmers. Additionally, the role involves critical data collection tasks to support Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) processes, ensuring that project impacts are documented accurately. By working closely with program teams and local extension officers, the volunteer will help bridge the gap between sustainable theory and practical field application, contributing to long-term climate adaptation and community resilience in the Mwanza region.

Key Requirements

Must have formal training in Agriculture (Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agroecology, or related field). Practical understanding of smallholder farming systems and rural livelihoods. Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land management practices is an added advantage. Strong facilitation and community engagement skills. Ability to work in rural settings and engage directly with farmers. Basic skills in data collection and reporting for monitoring purposes. Experience working with NGOs or community-based projects is an added advantage. Ability to commit to a minimum period of 3-6 months for the volunteer engagement. Proficiency in spoken and written Swahili and English to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing field conditions.
