ENVIRONMENTAL & SOCIAL SAFEGUARDS OFFICER @ STELLAR HR
Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental & Social Safeguards Officer to oversee high-impact projects based in Nairobi. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all project activities comply with both local NEMA regulations and international standards such as those set by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank. This role involves monitoring project sites, conducting rigorous risk assessments, and ensuring that environmental and social mitigation measures are effectively implemented throughout the project lifecycle. The officer will play a crucial role in stakeholder engagement, managing grievance redress mechanisms, and promoting occupational health and safety across various project sites. With a focus on climate resilience and sustainable development, the ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and the ability to produce detailed reports for both internal project management and external regulatory bodies. Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
3 to 5 years of professional experience specifically in environmental and social safeguards.
Comprehensive knowledge of NEMA regulations and environmental compliance requirements in Kenya.
In-depth familiarity with IFC and World Bank safeguard standards and performance requirements.
Prior experience working within the infrastructure or construction sectors is highly preferred.
Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement and the effective management of grievance mechanisms.
Solid understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols and climate resilience strategies.
Advanced reporting, data analysis, and documentation skills for environmental monitoring purposes.
Ability to conduct comprehensive environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with government agencies and local communities.
Proficiency in monitoring and evaluation techniques for environmental mitigation plans.
High level of integrity and ability to work independently in field environments.
