EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (SADC HUMANITARIAN AND EMERGENCY OPERATIONS – SHOC) @ SOUTHERN AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY (SADC)
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat is seeking a highly qualified, competent, and experienced professional to serve as the Executive Director for SADC Humanitarian and Emergency Operations (SHOC). This is a strategic regional leadership role focused on coordinating humanitarian efforts and emergency responses across SADC Member States, ensuring effective disaster preparedness and recovery initiatives are implemented at a regional level. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership, oversee operational efficiency, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to mitigate the impact of disasters and humanitarian crises. This position is based in the SADC region and requires significant experience in humanitarian management, policy development, and high-level stakeholder engagement.
Key Requirements
Master's degree in Humanitarian Affairs, International Relations, Public Administration, or related fields
At least 15 years of experience in senior management within humanitarian or emergency response organizations
Proven track record in regional or international policy implementation and humanitarian coordination
Strong understanding of SADC protocols, humanitarian architecture, and disaster risk reduction frameworks
Exceptional leadership skills with ability to manage diverse teams across geographical borders
Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Portuguese or French is highly desirable
Strong analytical, decision-making, and crisis management capabilities
Experience in resource mobilization and partnership development with international donors
Commitment to gender mainstreaming and inclusion policies within the workplace
Ability to pass security and background checks and fulfill all SADC administrative requirements
