DATA SCIENTIST @ SELCOM
Selcom, a leading company in Tanzania, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Data Scientist to join its dynamic team. This role is crucial for leveraging data to drive strategic decisions across various business lines, with a particular focus on the fintech and payments sector. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming raw data into actionable insights, contributing directly to Selcom's growth and operational efficiency. The Data Scientist will be responsible for leading comprehensive data analysis, developing and maintaining critical scorecards, dashboards, and Management Information System (MIS) reports that provide clear, decision-ready insights. A key aspect of this role will also involve championing data governance initiatives and establishing robust analytical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across the organization. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape data strategy and influence business outcomes within a fast-paced environment.
Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science (Master's is an added advantage)
Minimum 2 years of experience in data science, Business Intelligence (BI), or analytics, with a preference for experience in fintech/payments
Proficiency in Python, including libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn
Strong expertise in SQL for data extraction and manipulation
Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Metabase, or Looker
Solid understanding and practical application of statistical modelling, regression, clustering, and forecasting techniques
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to tackle complex business challenges
Excellent communication and presentation abilities to convey complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proven ability to build and maintain data-driven reports and dashboards effectively
Understanding of data governance principles and the ability to drive analytical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Experience in delivering decision-ready insights that directly support business objectives and strategic planning
