MAINFRAME DEVOPS ENGINEER @ PATTON LABS
Patton Labs is seeking a highly skilled Mainframe DevOps Engineer / SCM Migration SME to support enterprise IBM Z application modernization and SCM transformation initiatives. This contract role is designed for a professional with over a decade of experience who can navigate complex z/OS and IBM Z environments while driving innovation through modern DevOps practices. The successful candidate will lead efforts in transitioning legacy systems into more agile frameworks, ensuring that enterprise applications remain robust and scalable in a modern IT landscape.
In this role, you will be responsible for high-level SCM migration projects, specifically transitioning from Endevor to modern tools like DBB, Git, and IDD. You will be hands-on with CI/CD pipeline development using Groovy and YAML, and you will manage complex Git operations including branching and merging. Beyond technical implementation, you will provide consulting expertise to stakeholders, troubleshoot installation and migration issues, and work closely with development teams to optimize COBOL, PL/I, and JCL workflows. We are looking for an immediate joiner with exceptional communication skills to facilitate these critical transformations.

Key Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Mainframe environments.
Deep expertise in z/OS and IBM Z system architecture.
Proven experience in SCM modernization and consulting for large-scale enterprises.
Direct experience with SCM migration tools, specifically moving from Endevor to DBB/Git/IDD.
Hands-on proficiency with IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB) and Git.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Groovy and YAML.
Advanced knowledge of Git version control, including branching, merging, and debugging strategies.
Working knowledge of mainframe programming languages including COBOL and PL/I.
Experience working with JCL and mainframe data sets such as VSAM and QSAM.
Strong ability to perform installation, migration, and complex troubleshooting of mainframe tools.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Availability to join immediately or on very short notice.
