ICT is seeking a qualified Hydrologist Engineer for a significant infrastructure project in Kenya. This role involves feasibility studies and preliminary engineering design for a 143 km road network and associated civil works for fiber optic cable delivery. The project covers a vast area including Embomoss, Koiwa, Chebole, Siongiroi, Labotiet, Gorgor, Ambosi, Dikkirr, Kilgoris, Enoosaen, Anganga, and Mariwa. This is a specialized position requiring a professional with a deep understanding of hydrological analysis and its application to major road design and flood control works.

The successful candidate will be responsible for catchment delineation, rainfall data analysis, flood frequency analysis, and determination of design flood flows to mitigate risks to road infrastructure. Technical proficiency in hydrological modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and SWMM is essential. Additionally, the role requires the application of GIS tools for extracting terrain parameters from digital elevation models. The assignment duration is approximately four man-months, requiring immediate availability and the ability to work within the Kenyan regulatory framework for registered professional engineers.

Key Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Hydrology from a recognized university. Must be a registered or accredited professional by a relevant official body such as the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Minimum of ten years professional experience post-graduation in the field of hydrology and civil works. Demonstrated expertise in hydrological analysis, flood frequency analysis, and catchment modelling. Experience serving as a Hydrologist on at least three infrastructure projects successfully completed in the past ten years. At least two previous assignments must have involved comprehensive hydrological studies specifically for road projects. Proven experience in determining design flood flows and assessment of flooding risks to road infrastructure. Proficiency in hydrological modelling software such as HEC-HMS or HEC-RAS. Experience with SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) or equivalent tools for hydraulic analysis. Competency in using GIS tools for catchment delineation and extracting terrain parameters from digital elevation models. Ability to analyze rainfall data from meteorological stations accurately.
