Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Sports Editor to support the sports desk in planning, coordinating, and editing high-quality content. The role is pivotal in ensuring that sports coverage across print and digital platforms is timely, accurate, and engaging while maintaining the highest editorial standards and newsroom efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with a diverse team of reporters and designers to produce compelling sports packages that resonate with a broad audience.
Beyond day-to-day operations, the Assistant Sports Editor will champion digital-first publishing strategies to enhance online readership and engagement. This involves monitoring breaking news, preparing headlines and layouts, and planning coverage for both local and international sporting events. Candidates should be adept at working under pressure and meeting strict deadlines within Tanzania’s largest independent news network.

Key Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or Media Studies.
3–5 years’ experience in sports journalism or editorial work.
Strong knowledge of both local and international sports landscapes.
Experience in digital media publishing and multimedia storytelling techniques.
Excellent writing and editing skills in both English and Swahili.
Familiarity with newsroom systems and digital content management tools.
Strong editorial and news judgment skills to ensure accuracy and fairness.
Proven leadership and coordination abilities for managing a sports desk.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict daily deadlines.
