A leading policy research and consultancy firm based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is actively seeking a highly qualified Principal Research Consultant, who will also serve as Technical Director, to join its dynamic team. This senior leadership role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to impactful research and advisory projects focused on economic development, trade, and policy reviews. We are looking for an experienced professional with a proven track record in economic policy research, successful consultancy delivery, and effective stakeholder engagement.
As the Principal Research Consultant (Technical Director), you will be instrumental in leading business development initiatives, strategic engagement, and the successful delivery of research, advisory, and consulting projects across various economic and development policy domains. You will be responsible for overseeing teams of analysts and consultants, ensuring the meticulous delivery of rigorous, data-driven insights that support client needs and inform decision-making. The role demands a strategic thinker with deep subject-matter expertise, a results-oriented business mindset, and the ability to drive evidence-based solutions for sustainable development.

Key Requirements
Master’s or PhD in Economics, Public Policy, or a closely related field.
Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in economic policy research and/or advisory services, with a demonstrated record of successful project delivery.
Strong knowledge of economic modeling, advanced policy analysis, and diverse quantitative/qualitative research methods, coupled with exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Proficiency in key statistical software and tools such as STATA, R, or Python, alongside experience with data visualization tools.
Demonstrated experience in engaging effectively with government bodies, international organizations, and private sector clients.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively to non-specialist audiences.
Ability to lead, guide, and mentor junior professionals within the research and consultancy industry, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
Proven track record in successful business development initiatives for project portfolio growth, strategic sourcing, and engagement mapping.
Expertise in designing, overseeing, and ensuring the timely delivery of economic and development policy research projects, upholding methodological rigor and policy/practical relevance.
Strong understanding of sustainable development goals and their application in policy research and advisory contexts.
