TEACHER ASSISTANT – LIFE CENTRED EDUCATION (LCE) PROGRAM @ INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF TANGANYIKA (IST)
The Teacher Assistant for the Life Centred Education (LCE) Program at the International School of Tanganyika works closely with lead teachers to facilitate learning for students with diverse needs. This role is fundamental to the delivery of personalized learning plans that integrate modified academic content with independent living skills. The assistant provides hands-on classroom management, helps in the preparation of specialized instructional materials, and ensures that the learning environment is safe, inclusive, and encouraging for every student within the program.
Responsibilities include monitoring individual student progress, providing small-group tutoring, and assisting during school activities, including field trips and lunch breaks. The Teacher Assistant is expected to maintain high professional standards, adhering to child protection policies and actively participating in staff development sessions. Successful candidates will exhibit significant patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to the development and well-being of students requiring special educational support.

Key Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education
Minimum 4 years of teaching experience with special needs students
Strong understanding of child protection and safety policies
Proven ability to support classroom management and lesson preparation
Exceptional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Demonstrated empathy and patience when working with students
Capacity to adapt instruction based on student learning plans
Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality
Experience in school-based extracurricular activity supervision
Training or experience with MYP/DP is considered a significant asset
