CONTRACTOR HSE MANAGER (1 POST) @ HSEQ TANZANIA
The HSE Manager will lead, implement, and continuously improve the contractor’s Health, Safety & Environment Management System (HSEMS) to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations at the Nyanzaga Project site in Sengerema District, Mwanza. This role ensures full alignment with Lycopodium’s HSE standards, the Tanzanian Mining Act, and OSHA requirements, as well as the Contractor’s internal HSE policies. The primary goal is to safeguard personnel, equipment, the environment, and the local community through proactive risk identification and control measures. The position involves working at the Nyanzaga Site in Sengerema District. Key responsibilities include overseeing risk management, incident prevention, and environmental stewardship. The successful candidate will lead incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis, deliver HSE training and inductions, and maintain emergency preparedness plans. This is a field-based role requiring extended hours and standby for emergency response in a remote, high-risk mining environment. Candidates must demonstrate high integrity, a safety-champion mindset, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting.
Key Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in HSE, Environmental/Electrical Engineering, or any related field.
NEBOSH qualification is preferred for this role.
Mining HSE certification is considered a significant added advantage.
Minimum 5 years of professional HSE experience in mining, construction, or heavy industrial projects.
Familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards and audit processes.
Proven experience managing contractor HSE operations on remote project sites.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Excellent capability in risk assessment and hazard identification.
Ability to enforce HSE rules professionally and effectively in a field environment.
High competency in report writing, data analysis, and tracking key performance indicators.
