DESIGN ENGINEER – STEEL STRUCTURES @ HARJAI
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer specializing in Steel Structures to join our engineering team based in Kampala, Uganda. This role is pivotal for our steel structure engineering projects, requiring the candidate to develop detailed designs for both steel and Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structures while ensuring full compliance with industry regulations and standards such as BS and ASME. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex structural analyses and generating technical documentation to support large-scale construction projects.
Beyond design, the engineer will bridge the gap between the design office and the production floor. You will be expected to prepare precise Bills of Materials (BOMs) for budgeting purposes, coordinate closely with detailing teams, and oversee production and erection planning. Proficiency in industry-standard software tools including STAAD Pro, AutoCAD, Tekla, and MBS is essential, alongside a practical understanding of fabrication machines like plasma cutters and beam welding machines to ensure smooth shop floor operations.

Key Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering will be an added advantage.
Strong expertise in steel structural design, detailing, and analysis.
Advanced proficiency in structural design software such as STAAD Pro and Tekla.
Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and MBS for engineering drawings.
In-depth knowledge of steel fabrication processes and workshop machinery.
Familiarity with international engineering standards such as BS and ASME.
Ability to prepare comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) for quotations.
Experience in coordinating with detailing and production teams for shop floor efficiency.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills for erection planning activities.
