LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE SENIOR ASSOCIATE @ GRANT THORNTON TANZANIA
Grant Thornton Tanzania is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and highly qualified Legal and Compliance Senior Associate to join their Legal & Compliance unit. This role is essential for ensuring that the organization and its clients strictly adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements within Tanzania. The Senior Associate will be responsible for a wide array of duties including handling complex corporate transactions, managing mergers and acquisitions, and ensuring corporate compliance under the Companies Act. The role also extends to providing comprehensive immigration services, such as obtaining work permits, residence permits, and visas for expatriate employees, while identifying necessary business licenses and operational permits.
Beyond general corporate law, the position involves a significant focus on tax advisory and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will manage tax dispute cases involving the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), handle audit objections, and support litigation work at the Tax Revenue Appeals Board (TRAB) and Tribunal (TRAT). This role requires preparing detailed legal opinions on corporate income tax, VAT, and customs duties, as well as conducting legal research on evolving tax legislation. Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution.
Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania.
Minimum of three years of experience in corporate legal practice or compliance.
Proven experience handling mergers and acquisitions and corporate transactions.
In-depth understanding of Tanzanian corporate, labor, and regulatory laws.
Ability to handle immigration matters including work and residence permits.
Experience in tax dispute resolution and dealings with the TRA, TRAB, or TRAT.
Strong skills in drafting legal opinions, board resolutions, and annual filings.
Excellent legal research, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex tasks efficiently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and regulator engagement.
A Master's degree (LL.M) in a relevant field is considered an added advantage.
