GIS (1 POSITION) @ FORLAND
The GIS intern will be responsible for providing technical support in mapping and spatial data analysis for the FORLAND project. This role is essential for monitoring changes in land use, forest cover, and mapping value chain corridors in the Iringa region. The intern will assist in the creation of detailed maps that help the project team make informed decisions about resource management and climate resilience strategies.
Stationed in Mafinga, the intern will use Geographic Information Systems to process field data and generate spatial reports. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded individual to apply GIS tools to real-world environmental challenges. The intern will also collaborate with field officers to collect GPS coordinates and maintain an accurate database of the project’s geographical footprint.

Key Requirements
A degree in Geomatics, GIS, Geography, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
Knowledge of spatial data collection techniques using GPS handhelds or mobile apps.
Ability to analyze and interpret satellite imagery and aerial photographs.
Strong understanding of coordinate systems and map projections.
Basic knowledge of database management and spatial statistics.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry.
Ability to produce high-quality cartographic products for reports.
Interest in applying GIS technology to forestry and land use planning.
Good communication skills to explain spatial findings to non-technical staff.
