Alliance Life Assurance Limited is seeking a General Manager for Retail Distribution to lead its individual life insurance business across the Tanzanian market. Established in 2010, Alliance Life has become a leader in East African insurance, known for its innovation and commitment to customer service. The General Manager will be responsible for building a formidable retail life insurance franchise, developing strategies to expand the distribution network, and driving sales to achieve multiplier business growth targets. This role involves overseeing profit centers, managing expense ratios, and ensuring business profitability through various channels, including banca retail and alternate channels like direct, online, and digital platforms. Candidates will be expected to work across Dar es Salaam as well as upcountry and remote regions as part of the nationwide distribution strategy.

The successful candidate will lead the recruitment and activation of a nationwide Retail Financial Advisor (RFA) network, maintaining high retention and productivity levels. Key responsibilities include growing bancassurance partnerships, managing digital and mobile money-linked insurance distribution (such as M-Pesa and Airtel Money), and ensuring full compliance with TIRA regulations. The role requires a visionary leader to co-design the multi-year retail life sales strategy and drive a culture of high performance and customer satisfaction. The candidate will manage a large team of over 200 staff and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer, contributing significantly to the executive leadership and long-term institution building of the company.

Key Requirements

Associate diploma from ACII UK, III India, or LOMA USA. CIM Degree or MBA in Sales & Marketing or General Management. Graduate degree from a recognized University. 10–15 years of experience in Life retail insurance distribution leadership. Minimum 5 years of experience in P&L-accountable or GM-level roles. At least 5 years of experience managing partnership channels like banks or large brokers. Proven history of handling insurance sales portfolios of at least TZS 15 bn. Experience managing a team of over 200 distribution staff across geographically dispersed locations. Track record in scaling Retail Financial Advisor models across agency and direct channels. Advanced understanding of life insurance financial statements and profitability metrics.
