Basil is seeking a passionate and dedicated Full Stack Java Developer/Tech Lead to join our team in Fort Worth, Texas. This immediate hire will serve as a key technical leader, driving the vision of creating the world's best Point of Sale (POS) system. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who is not just looking for a role but wants to be part of a mission-driven 'tribe' to build something beautiful and meaningful. The position requires daily in-office attendance and a strong commitment to leading with passion and excellence while maintaining the highest standards of merchant reliability.

As the Tech Lead and Senior Developer, you will be equal parts architect, mentor, and hands-on coder, partnering directly with the Senior Product Manager to own the technical direction of the Basil POS platform. You will lead a growing team of six developers and one QA engineer, setting the standard for production-quality Java Spring Boot code through daily contributions and peer reviews. Your mission is to foster an engineering culture rooted in quality and accountability, showing a junior-level team what 'good' looks like by example. You will be responsible for backend services, API integrations, and overall system architecture.

Key Requirements

7+ years of professional software development experience. At least 3 years in a senior or lead engineering role. Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot framework. Hands-on experience with SaaS platforms in the POS, restaurant tech, or payments space. Working knowledge of the card payment ecosystem including gateways and EMV. Understanding of PCI compliance fundamentals and transaction lifecycles. Proven track record of leading and mentoring junior-to-mid level developers. Ability to work on-site in Fort Worth, Texas daily. Experience building and maintaining production services at scale. Strong skills in system architecture and writing production-quality code.
