DATA MANAGER (KIKOHOZI CLASSIFIER PROJECT) @ THE AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY (AKU)
The Aga Khan University (AKU), a leading international university emphasizing quality education and research, is seeking a full-time Data Manager for the critical Kikohozi Classifier Project, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This role is essential for managing high-quality, secure, and ethical data for a large multi-site research initiative involving 30,000 participants, requiring close collaboration with partners like MUHAS–ETH Lab. The successful candidate will be the central point for designing and maintaining secure databases, ensuring stringent data quality and compliance, and supporting the specific data needs of the project's AI/ML components.
Key responsibilities include overseeing data security and ethics, training research staff on protocols, and preparing comprehensive datasets and reports required for publications and donors. The Data Manager will also actively collaborate with internal and external research teams and partner institutions while contributing to broader teaching and research activities within AKU. Applicants must possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and 2–3 years of data management experience.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 2–3 years of professional data management experience, preferably in a research environment.
- Strong expertise in designing, maintaining, and securing research databases.
- Proven ability to ensure high data quality, integrity, and ethical compliance for large multi-site projects (30,000 participants).
- Familiarity with data requirements specific to Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) projects.
- Experience in training and mentoring research staff on robust data management and security protocols.
- Proficiency in preparing comprehensive datasets and analytical reports for research publications and funding donors.
- Expertise in data governance and handling sensitive participant data ethically.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers and international partners (e.g., MUHAS–ETH Lab).
- Demonstrated knowledge of data standardization and documentation procedures.
