MAINFRAME LEAD ENGINEER @ INNOVAT
This opportunity is for a Mainframe Lead Engineer based in Sydney, Australia, working directly with one of our key clients. The successful candidate will combine independent coding expertise with strong leadership skills, responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of up to 10 offshore and onshore developers. Key duties include active participation in requirements elicitation and the creation of robust application architecture and design artifacts.
The Lead Engineer is expected to ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient code, and to support crucial activities related to system implementation and transition. This role requires interfacing effectively with internal teams and key stakeholders, and possessing core technical proficiency across IMS, Cobol, JCL, VSAM, CICS, and PL/I, with DB2 and Eztrieve skills being beneficial.

Requirements:
- Proficiency in IMS technology and environments.
- Expertise in Cobol programming for complex mainframe applications.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with JCL (Job Control Language).
- Familiarity and skill with VSAM data structures and management.
- Deep understanding of CICS system usage and development.
- Competency in PL/I programming language.
- Proven capability to lead and manage a development team of up to 10 individuals (onshore/offshore).
- Experience in requirements gathering and elicitation processes.
- Ability to contribute to application architecture documentation and detailed design artifacts.
- Skills in advanced troubleshooting and resolving high-level technical issues.
- Experience with DB2 and Eztrieve (Highly desirable).
- Strong communication skills for interfacing with key business stakeholders.
