VHS Consulting is seeking an experienced Windows Kernel Driver Engineer for a long-term contract position based in Redmond, WA. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and debugging high-quality kernel-mode and user-mode drivers and system services that function at the critical boundary between hardware, firmware, and the operating system. You will play a vital role in diagnosing complex issues through kernel debugging and crash dump analysis, ensuring the stability and performance of system-level components.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) teams, as well as core Windows teams to drive quality and validation. Key responsibilities include implementing telemetry and diagnostics for rapid remote issue resolution and managing the full release lifecycle, including HLK testing and driver signing. This position requires an ownership mindset and the ability to work across multiple technical domains to deliver robust system software solutions. Candidates must be eligible under H1B status as this is a specific requirement for the client's current project needs.

Key Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in low-level system software development. Proven expertise in developing and debugging Windows drivers using WDM and KMDF frameworks. Deep understanding of kernel-mode and user-mode driver architectures and system services. Advanced proficiency in C and C++ programming languages for system-level applications. Strong skills in kernel debugging and the ability to analyze complex system crash dumps. Experience with Hardware Lab Kit (HLK) or Hardware Certification Kit (HCK) for validation. Familiarity with driver signing processes and overall release readiness workflows. Ability to work effectively across hardware and firmware boundaries with IHVs. Knowledge of secure driver design principles and implementing telemetry for diagnostics. Demonstrated experience in device bring-up and automation of release pipelines. Strong collaboration skills and an ownership mindset for driving project quality.
