SENIOR DATA ENGINEER @ SAMPATH BANK PLC
Sampath Bank PLC is expanding its Advanced Analytics Center of Excellence (COE) and is actively searching for a Senior Data Engineer to spearhead the development of its next-generation AI and data-driven banking infrastructure. This onsite role based in Sri Lanka is designed for high-performance professionals capable of building scalable data platforms that meet the rigorous demands of enterprise-level financial services. Candidates will play a pivotal role in the bank's high-impact AI transformation journey, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to drive technological innovation. The successful applicant will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and documenting robust data pipelines and ingestion frameworks, as well as implementing sophisticated Lakehouse architectures. Key duties include developing both batch and real-time data processing solutions while ensuring the highest standards of data quality, governance, and security. Beyond technical implementation, the Senior Data Engineer will mentor junior team members and contribute to the establishment of industry-leading data engineering practices and culture within the organization.
Key Requirements
5–8+ years of experience in data engineering
Bachelor’s in CS, IT, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar
Strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP)
Experience in implementing data lake and Lakehouse architecture
Experience in ETL/ELT processes and data modeling
Hands-on experience with real-time streaming (Kafka, Spark, CDC workflows)
Strong coding skills in Python, PySpark, PL/SQL
Experience with Docker & Kubernetes, AirFlow DAGs, Git
Ability to design systems and mentor team members
Prior experience in the BFSI sector will be considered an added advantage
